Noura Bakkar (Lebanon)

​Noura, a feminist artist from our collaborator Arneli Art Gallery, Beirut, creates provocative work on various and often taboo topics designed to challenge conservatism. 'Reclaiming Aphrodite' is a series of sculptures, a re-representation of women's bodies through an inclusionary "female gaze". Deformed and twisted, they question the beauty myth and invite discussion on the pressures put upon women by patriarchal systems.
