Jihad Kiame (Lebanon)

Picture
Artist_Serial_Killer sarcastically emanates from the fierce debate over the authenticity of Art in a time when technology is changing or has already changed many things. What is authentic? The conventional non‐digital? The computer‐assisted? Both, or neither? To approach calmly such a controversy comes Photography; with the right equipment and a sensitive eye, in a glimpse, beautiful images are captured, some of which auctioned for millions of dollars. Thus, it is not the time spent in generating an artwork that has the exclusive power to determine its value; the most important of the other parameters is undoubtedly the underlying concept.

Jihad Kiame, born 1971, is an architect and an urban planner. He runs OPAD, his firm based in Beirut. He recently decided to find moments to break free from the burden of his original profession where ideas are mostly impossible to deliver intact. This is where "Crime" intrudes to offer him compensation. To perpetuate the sarcasm, his digital artworks are titled "Artkills" and are generally inspired by a focal concern about “Cities and Territories”; a subject that haunts the “killer” in the teaching he provides at one of the Schools of Architecture and Urban Planning in Beirut.
